Health & Safety

We are committed to our guiding principles, including ensuring health, safety, and environment come first.

Our HSE Commitment

At ESS North America, our guiding principles define the “checklist” for our decision-making, and the first principle is:

“Health, Safety, and Environment First – never compromise on the health and safety of our customers or our people, and manage responsibly the impact our business has on the environment.”

Our company believes a commitment to health and safety requires a balanced approach from both management and associates. For further information, please refer to our company procedures: Leadership and Commitment, Safety and Health Policy Procedure, Rights and Authority, and Structure and Responsibilities Procedure.

We have an absolute duty to take all reasonably practicable steps to ensure the health and safety of associates and other persons impacted by the business or undertaking. Reasonably practicable steps means those available ways of eliminating or minimizing the risk of injury after having considered a number of relevant matters together, such as the likelihood and severity of the risk and the means to control it, weighted against the costs associated with eliminating and minimizing the risk. Our company – whose activities include the management or control of workplaces, fixtures, fittings, and plants – will ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, its workplaces and anything arising from them are without risks to health and safety.

As part of this approach, ESS expects management at all levels will:

  • Ensure compliance with the ESS Safety & Health Management System
  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment at all times
  • Develop, promote, and implement company health and safety systems and practices
  • Effectively use company resources to meet our HSE standards and objectives
  • Train all associates to enable them to work in a safe and efficient manner
